Conidia Bioscience has joined EvanesCo Ltd (Newton Abbot, Devon), Sifam Ltd (part of the Gooch and Housego Group of Torquay, Devon)and Aston University (Birmingham) as the end-user on Project Sentinel.

Project Sentinel is designed to produce two new and innovative products initially for the aviation industry.

The first product will be a suspended water test that will enable maintenance staff to determine the amount of water in fuel down to at least 10 parts per million. Part of the daily maintenance routine for aircraft and important throughput the fuel supply chain, the suspended water test is currently carried out using old technology giving only a rough and ready Go/No Go answer.

The second product will be an electronic version of Conidia's famous Fuelstat resinae detection kit for determining levels of microbial contamination in aviation kerosene. This new technology will provide the same speed as the current immunoassay test, but will provide more detailed, fully quantitative information on the amounts of contamination present.

Both kits are expected to be on the market in late-2008.

Conidia Bioscience Ltd is working with EvanesCo Ltd (Newton Abbot, Devon) to market a variant of their successful EVMini fuel discriminator.

The test kit is designed to assist maintenance staff in determining accurately when all free water has been drained from a fuel tank. For use in all fuels, the easy to use kit will alert the operator when all the free water has been drained and only fuel remains.

The kit will remove the problem of identifying the boundary between the two similarly couloured liquids and will reduce waste of fuel and the problems associated with water contamination in fuel should all the water not be drained off.

The kit is expected to be on sale in the middle of 2008.

EvanesCo Ltd and Conidia Bioscience Ltd have agreed to work together to develop a 4-in-1 test for Hormoconis resinae, yeasts, aerobic bacteria and anearobic bacteria once the developments in Project Sentinel and Conidia's own in-house R&D have been completed.

We look to produce the definitive test for all hydrocarbon fuels reporting all possible contaminants against IATA levels. This work will commence in 2009.
