Why worry about controlling diesel bug growth?
If diesel bug growth proceeds untested the consequences can be serious. Though individually microscopic, diesel bug organisms can build up in the diesel fuel system, living at the interface between the water and fuel causing blockages.
This build up reduces the efficiency of the diesel fuel system and eventually can stop the flow of diesel fuel by preventing fuel from flowing through the fuel filter. Even if the fuel and filter are dealt with, the diesel bug can survive in nooks and crannies in the diesel system ready to spring in to action once the fuel supply is restored.
The diesel bug will soon re-colonise the system, thriving on the reduced competition and pristine new fuel source.
Unless heavy diesel bug contamination is thoroughly dealt with, not only can repeated engine stoppage result, but eventually the corrosive action of the diesel bug organisms can eat through even stainless steel tanks.
